A simple guide that consists of five narratives relating to each element of the “Matrix of Liberty”
From the Narrative on Faith: “… Unique to America then – and today – is the belief that the source of these liberties that they sought for themselves and their fellow citizens were not granted by man, but rather mankind “is endowed by the Creator with certain inalienable rights”.
From the Narrative on Morality: “… Our forefathers knew what every father and mother knows ….. and that is you don’t have to teach a child how to lie. Therefore, they knew that moral development among the children of America would be key to sustaining and growing a strong and prosperous nation.”
From the Narrative on Education: “…Here is the reality of the time: If you were to stand up in a public gathering and say that the teaching of the ten commandments – or any of the proverbs – amounted to the civil authority advocating or imposing a religious belief on the people, you would have been thought to be ignorant and a fool.”
From the Narrative on Law: “ Abraham Lincoln is actually credited with putting the United States on a firm footing with what is referred to as “the Gettysburg Legacy”. On that battlefield – with the nation deeply divided and in the midst of a civil war, he spoke the words: “—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
From the Narrative on Liberty:“… Liberty is the ability to “act” openly ….. to speak out against injustice – to protest a perceived wrong – to stand in opposition to – or – support of a public policy without fear of prosecution or persecution from the government (especially if the other side wins)”.
